| | | Price's early films included such film noir classics as "Laura (1944) and "Leave Her to Heaven (1945), but it was the release of "House of Wax in 1953 that established the actor as the silky-voiced master of menace. The late fifties saw the arrival of an extraordinary cycle of gimmick-driven films produced and directed by showman extraordinary William Castle. Price starred for Castle in "House of Haunted Hill (1958) and "The Tingler (1959)--completing with cinema seats in certain theaters wired up to simulate the effect of the movie monster's electrical attacks. Denis Meikle's judicious and acute survey of Price's career takes in the low as well as the high points. Meikle paints rounded portrait of a supremely gifted actor, who carved himself a unique niche in film history. Vincent Price also includes over 120 stills, including scores of previously unseen images.
